St. Petersburg Times. She focuses on the trend of ditching dates and going with groups of
friends. Stein scores excellent quotes, like when a guidance
counselor recalls a kid comparing taking a date to prom to bringing a peanut butter
sandwich to a banquet. Or when Mike Mellon, 18, admits relief
that his date fell through so that he could wear a tangerine tux.
"It wouldn't have worked out anyway, " Mike says of a date with Liz. "I'm orange. She's purple."

silky dresses, tasty as lollipops, and suave black and white tuxes.
Find an angle to your prom story -- fashion, dates, drugs, dancing,
after-parties, transportation. Don't settle with the stale "It
