Truthiness trite

It was good while it lasted, but when I saw "truthiness" in Editor & Publisher, it made me want to run screaming from -- where?

OK, so let's stop it. Truthiness, which used to ring true, is getting all the truth wrung out of it. It has become a quickché.

I'm sorry to say that. Just last year, it was voted word of the year by the American Dialect Society, which notes that the word dates back to 1824. (Who knew The Colbert Report was that old?)

I am nominating "truthiness" to Lake Superior State College for banishment.

From word of the year to banished overnight. It's a cold, cruel word.
