The music in your ears
In his column about Music CD Sales Falling, Poynter's Al Tompkins writes about the 20 percent drop in CD sales in the first three months of 2007.

So where are people getting their music? Downloads, of course.

Tompkins also quotes a Wall Street Journal story on the subject, which says Nielsen Soundscan has recorded the two lowest-selling No. 1 albums since the tracking company was launched in 1991.

Pair these facts with this nice feature angle from the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times showing the playlists of celebrities and riffing on what that might say about their personalities.

What's on your principal's iPod? Or check the playlist of your head custodian or media specialist or Student Council president. Consider graphic treatment of those playlists to add visual interest to your report.

Anyone can report on what celebrities listen to. Only you cover your school.

Have fun.
