alleged "love child" in its archives, but the paper refused to give it to the National Enquirer. "They were willing to pay for the image, possibly thousands of dollars," says Times editor
Paul J. Pronovost. "Before staking out moral high ground, I should tell you that we put our own reporters on the story when it broke. ...Our reporters started digging up records, knocking on doors, and reaching out to trusted sources. Ultimately, however, we had too many unanswered questions and decided not to publish a story."
