Washington Gov.
Chris Gregoire recently decided to soften her image and use Chris instead of Christine. "'Whatever,' was my view on the name change," writes Columbian editor
Lou Brancaccio. "It's her name. But The Associated Press, the service that provides most of our wire news, was sticking with 'Christine.' Something about her wanting to change the name to soften her image. AP didn't like it." AP came around, though, after Brancaccio had lunch with
Nancy Trott, the wire service's Seattle bureau chief.

"Chris. Christine. Whatever. I’m far more concerned that no one seems to agree how to pronounce the governor’s last name," writes
Peter Callaghan. "Is it GREG-wahr or greg-WAHR?"
