One Post critic claims the paper in the past would "re-closet individuals as a matter of editorial practice," but NLGJA president Eric Hegedus says top editor Leonard Downie Jr. and crew have done "a pretty decent job" with gay stories. "I think there was an awareness that gay or LGBT issues have to be covered as well as possible." The Blade says "it's unclear how Marcus Brauchli would handle coverage of gay issues when he takes the reins at the Post."
