The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources pays Sinclair Media $90,000 annually to produce and air "West Virginia Wildlife." In return, the agency maintains editorial control over the segments, which won a regional Emmy award in 2007. "[DNR officials] approve scripts because they want to make sure what we say and what we put on the air is correct," says WVAH-TV news director Matt Snyder.
