Norfolk-based Landmark Communications has hired investment firms to explore selling the company, which includes nine daily newspapers (the Virginian-Pilot is its flagship paper), more than 100 nondaily newspapers and specialty publications, the Weather Channel and TV stations in Las Vegas and Nashville. The Weather Channel and its related properties could bring more than $5 billion alone, says a source. ||
