Jim McCartney is bothered by a Detroit News/Free Press exec's
claim that newsroom downsizing won't affect coverage. "Were those reporters and editors simply doing nothing but sitting on their hands?" he asks. "Isn't it an insult to the departing reporters and editors to have their bosses say that their departure will not affect the quality of the product?"
