Steve Lannen was reluctant to deliver a scalp to the coroner, but a woman who knew the dead man begged him. "In my gut, I suppose I knew I was crossing some journalism ethics line," he says. The editor who handled Lannen's
story writes: "I think he did the right thing. The remains belonged with the coroner, and Steve took them there straight-away. ...Second, I don't think it was necessary for someone else to write the story [because Lannen delivered the scalp]."
