The Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency has been awarded to Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe, who "exposed a persistent and unprecedented expansion of Presidential authority that infringed on the separation of powers imbedded in the Constitution." The Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense goes to The Economist's James Astill. The judges say he "connects details to broad themes in ways that help explain events as complex and diverse as drug trade in Afghanistan and the counter-insurgency movement in Iraq."
