Richard Prince's Journal-isms
In his new book, Cox Washington bureau reporter Elliot Jaspin writes that Journal-Constitution editor Julia Wallace's refusal to run a Cox series on racial expulsions rankled Cox Newspapers Washington bureau chief Andy Alexander. Jaspin writes that Alexander told him: "I think we both know what's going on here. They are afraid of angering white people." (Alexander now says: "Often, things are said in the heat of the editing process that are untrue. Julia long ago gave me her reasons for not running the project and I accept them.") Jaspin writes in the book: "The stories I had written were edited to obscure the Atlanta newspaper's lackadaisical coverage of race. Editors ignored clear conflicts of interest while editing the racial cleansing series."
