Stephen G. Smith says he's leaving the Houston Chronicle's Washington bureau to edit Philip Anschutz's Washington Examiner -- a free tabloid -- because "this is an opportunity to do something new and stretch my talent." Also, he's realized that his strengths and interests as a journalist are no longer aligned with what the Chronicle wants out of its Washington bureau. "Now the paper is wanting more enterprise stories, and that's a tricky word," he tells Frank Ahrens. "It means different things to different people."
