"I felt no profession was worth dying for," says Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of the Russian muckraking tabloid Novaya Gazeta. He's lost three reporters in the past six years. One was bludgeoned to death with a hammer, another was poisoned, and a third, Anna Politkovskaya, was shot dead two months ago. The paper's chief investigative reporter says: "Even if we were to publish pictures of Putin receiving suitcases of money at the Kremlin door, no one would care."
