AJR's analysis shows that the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal have dramatically increased their share of Pulitzer largesse over the years. Why? "The bigger papers have bigger staffs, so they can more easily free up reporters to concentrate on ambitious, time-consuming enterprise and investigative projects," writes Donna Shaw. "Some journalists, though, mutter darkly that politicking and conscious or unconscious favoritism toward the big boys play a role."
