Keith J. Kelly hears there's tension between Vanity Fair's new publisher, Alan Katz, and editor-in-chief Graydon Carter, and that there's some staff grumbling about Carter. "He's never there," a source tells Kelly. "And when he is, it is almost impossible to get him to focus. He's bored." Carter responds: "Any criticism of me is absolutely ridiculous after the years we've had. We broke the Deep Throat story. ... It's an extremely healthy magazine, newsstand sales and renewals are way up. ...And I'm never bored."
