Journalists are the most cynical group you'll ever find when it comes to assessing the intentions of politicians, says Times Union editor Rex Smith. "You will not meet a journalist who doesn't assume that everybody in public office has an ulterior motive, usually assumed to be political gain, behind every statement or action." Randy "Duke" Cunningham's behavior isn't typical of public servants, says Smith.
