Last week in E-Media Tidbits I highlighted some innovative examples of what
various news organizations were doing online to promote
Sunshine Week -- ASNE's second annual campaign to promote public awareness of open government concerns.
Today, Poynter Online published a Centerpiece article I wrote, "Sun Still Shining Online," offering several examples of how Sunshine Week was addressed online by individuals and organizations that are not specifically part of a mainstream news organization. This includes everything from the Coalition of Journalists for Open Government to FreeCulture.org and much more.
Last week, several Tidbits readers were kind enough to send me links to various examples of Sunshine Week coverage available online. Generally, I thought the reporting in those stories was first rate -- and those journalists and news organizations should be very proud of their efforts.
However, as with most Sunshine Week online offerings I saw from mainstream news organizations, very few of those examples went beyond the "shovelware" approach to online media. (That's not a comment on the journalism, just the online presentation.)
Thanks again to everyone who sent me links to their Sunshine Week coverage. I'm sorry I didn't end up using most of them.
