Clarin.com: How Do You Like the Redesign?
Posted by Juan Carlos Camus 11:58 AM
When Clarin.com turned 10 on March 9, the site changed its design. Guillermo Culell, director of the site, told eBlog that the change was based on the idea that the site's readers have grown accustomed to the posting format and a dynamic interface, which are features of Clarin.com's "blog style."

By the way, the redesign has changed everything on the site. Now there are just three main sections (Latest News, Print Edition and Classifieds) -- different from categories commonly found on other news sites such as Sports, Nation and Business.

After two weeks with this new design, many Spanish-language weblogs have posted readers' congratulations and complaints -- well, mostly complaints.

Juan Varela of Periodistas 21 thinks the redesigned Clarin.com separates the print and online editions pretty well. Malas Palabras offers a form to locate missing sections from the former design. And El Capitán offers analysis from an HTML standards perspective.

UPDATE March 24: Diego Rottman, the writer behind "Malas Palabras," sent me the link to his analysis of Clarin.com's redesign (in Spanish). He also explained that Clarin.com stopped classifying sections under their old names, so his section locator works only for stories posted before March 23.
