Could Google be looking at expansion into Africa? The world's most
powerful search engine has been stepping up its activity on the
continent in the past year or so, by launching new products and
advertising positions in African countries. This week, Google quietly
launched "
Google
News South Africa" to match
its other regional news sites. It was only last year that Google launched a
regional
search engine in South Africa.
Google now offers searches in local South African languages like
Zulu, Xhosa, and Afrikaans. South Africa is by far Africa's top country
in terms of Internet usage. The country is also Africa's most powerful
economy, meaning it is often chosen as headquarters for multinational
companies looking to expand into Africa.
