E-Media Tidbits

I subscribe to more than 60 podcasts -- and many of my favorites offer me news of some sort, or are produced by mainstream news or media organizations. Here are a few of my favorites:

• Denver Post, All News: Audio summary of each weekday's top headlines from the Denver Post, read by Steve Alexander. Here's this show's feed, although it generally doesn't work. Most days I have to access this show manually. The amazing thing is that I do it!

• On the Media: A flagship weekly public radio show by WNYC. Who said media analysis can't be fun? I'm glad the podcast is available, because my local public radio station doesn't carry this show. (Feed)

• Slashdot Review: Each weekday, on top of his day job, Andrew McCaskey creates a 10-minute, ad-supported summary of the most popular or interesting stories from Slashdot, Digg, and Reddit. I can't give McCaskey enough praise for his efforts -- a good portion of the cool online stuff I've blogged about here and elsewhere I heard from him first. Thanks for making me look smart, Andy! • On the Beat: This podcast from KCRW-FM in Los Angeles features commentary and analysis by music industry veteran Celia Hirschman on current trends and events in the music business. I have several musician friends who are always asking me how they can use online media to their advantage, and this show is one way I find answers to their questions. Plus, the news business can take a lot of lessons from the current tumult in the music business. (Feed)

• Grist Environmental News: For several years, Grist -- which collects environmental news from myriad sources and delivers is with a healthy dose of humor -- has been one of my favorite online magazines. Their weekly podcast has clued me in to several stories I hadn't heard elsewhere, usually making me chuckle in the process. (Feed)

• The Onion Radio News: My very favorite news podcast of all -- just a minute long, and it's often my favorite minute of the day. Plus, the heavy-hitter advertisers they land for this are no laughing matter. Check it out. I dare you.(Feed)
