Mobile Internet: How Much Will You Pay?

T-Mobile Germany is offering mobile broadband for the business user, writes the Dutch daily De Volkskrant today.

This is interesting for me, since I'm advising some Chinese companies who are rolling out the third-generation mobile phone system for their country. There is not much to compare, apart from the price. T-Mobile will change 69.50€ per month -- obviously too much for the average Chinese user.

I have seen financial models for China where the monthly charge would be 3€ -- still expensive for rural customers, but very close to what urbanites pay for their cable connection.

China sees this kind of technology more as an utility, needed to boost its economy and only at the second place as a way to make money. Still, they do need to make a lot of money to earn back the investments that are estimated between $40 and 80 billion USD.
