National Geographic News reports that Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Holland and many other European countries now levy a tax on plastic grocery bags. More are considering a ban or tax.
This movement is spreading across the globe and might be catching on here, too. A year ago,
San Francisco became the first U.S. city to ban non-compostable plastic bags in grocery stores. And as you may have heard, other California cities as well
as Seattle and the states of New York, Maryland and New Jersey are aggressively urging plastic bag recycling.
