Denis Dyack, a longtime developer and founder of game studio Silicon Knights, doesn’t see a healthy future for social gaming.

“It is damaging traditional gaming for sure but…how it’s going to work out is anyone’s guess,” Dyack said in an interview with Industry Gamers published yesterday. “The trend that I see is it’s probably going to be one of the biggest bubbles and explosions that our industry’s seen in a long time and I think when it crashes it’s going to crash very hard.”

Headliner.fm gives artists like Thomas a way to connect with other musicians, and gives those other musicians an incentive to recommend new music to their own fans.

Lippman, a vice president at Lippman Entertainment, said Thomas’ fans were asked to create a cover image for the single, with the winner’s design being chosen. “The contest was a success. We used it to target people who would be interested, because we knew hip-hop guys weren’t going to care about his single,” Lippman told CNET.

Today’s Google doodle honors choreographer Martha Graham’s birthday–and with animated dancers revealing it, showcases the company’s push to build a more dynamic Web.

The only problem: some people find it’s slowing their machines. That’s hardly the outcome that Google–obsessed over every millisecond of delay in delivering search results–could have wanted.

The dynamic doodle is a rarity for Google, but you can expect more as the company tries to draw attention to what can be done on the Web, not just to the subjects of its doodles. Indeed, Google had a whole session at its Google I/O conference this week to Google’s Pac-Man doodle a year ago, which was an actual playable game.

Broadcom buying smart-card security specialist SC Square

Chip maker Broadcom said Sunday that it will pay US$41.9 million for SC Square, a move that will bring expertise in smart-card security to the Irvine, California, architect of silicon for communications equipment.

Broadcom’s cash purchase of the Israeli security software firm, which is subject to unspecified closing conditions, is expected to close by June 30, Broadcom said.
